The 7th National Tribal Conference on Environmental Management.

Sacred Ground: Sustainability for Indian Country and Mother Earth was held on June 7 - 10, 2005

At the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa
Traverse City, Michigan

The Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians (GTB) was pleased to invite you to participate in the 7th National Tribal Conference on Environmental Management (NTCEM) in Traverse City, Michigan, June 7 - 10, 2005. The NTCEM is being held at the Grand Traverse Resort and Spa, owned by GTB.

The NTCEM was one of the premier environmental events in Indian Country with approximately 600+ people in attendance. The conference provided an opportunity for tribal leaders, tribal environmental managers, tribal scientists, tribal organizations, federal agencies, and other interested entities to share information about tribal environmental programs, and discuss issues of vital interest to Indian Country.

The Grand Traverse Resort and Spa is the Midwest’s largest year-round resort and conference center. The resort is well respected in the travel industry, it is ranked in the top 20 mainland resorts and top 50 travel destinations and services worldwide by Conde Nast Traveler.

The NTCEM has generally been held on a bi-annual basis since 1992. The 2005 tribal co-host, the Grand Traverse Band of Ottawa and Chippewa Indians was selected through a national competition. The conference focus was generally on multi-media environmental issues affecting tribes, familiarizing tribes with the full extent of tribal and federal environmental program activities, and generally on exchanging knowledge and skills that will enhance the environmental protection of native communities throughout the US.
